The Other Sun by Jacob Hashimotoat at the Ronchini Gallery
Ronchini gallery in collaboration with studio La Città present the first solo show in the UK of new york-based artist Jacob Hashimoto.
The site-specific installation entitled ‘the other sun’ is composed of hundreds of small paper kite elements which are a signature of the american born artist. These delicate components are made using traditional kite-making techniques whereby paper is adhered to bamboo frames of varying sizes. the resulting individual parts are strung together and suspended from parallel dowels, arranged into a larger layered, sculptural landscape which looms above the viewer. the cloud-like forms, employ both solid coloured and patterned ‘kites’ which provide a pictorial quality to the dense overall network at hand. working across the intersection of painting and sculpture, abstraction and landscape, the pieces hashimoto creates generate a dialogue between spatial considerations of sculpture and that of the illustrative devices of painting.
